Bubba: The answers you are searching for

SO, "Bubba" left a comment, asking why I felt the following people were "fools."
I needed more space, than the comment box would allow...

Here are just a few examples of why the following men (IMHO) are 'totally off their rockers':

Charlie Daniels (directly from the horse's mouth or the jack's ass ~ his personal website)-
"I believe that the universe and everything in it was created, not evolved,by an Almighty, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent God.I believe in the virgin birth of Jesus Christ. I believe that he walked this earth for thirty plus years performing fantastic miracles including raising the dead.I believe he was nailed to a cross and that the blood that he shed was forthe remission of sin that he was laid in a grave and rose on the third day and now sits at the right hand of The Father interceding for those who believe in him and that one day sooner than later he will be coming back to earth to claim his rightful place as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.I believe that the salvation of Jesus Christ is available to all and that he is the way the truth and the light, the only path to God.I believe the Bible literally, the Old Testament and the New Testament, when it says the whale swallowed Jonah I believe he actually ingested Jonah and regurgitated him."
- I'm sorry but this is just plain insane. Where is the critical thought?
"I for one am sick and tired of hearing some Muslim get on some television show and complain about how they are portrayed in our society. It could be solved very simply by declaring sides in the coming battle and condemning the Islamic terrorist forces around the world. They can be both Muslims and Americans but if they're living in a country they would take uparms against it's high time they declared themselves."
- He really needs to get his redneck out of his ass.

Don Manzulo - I grew up in a town very near to where Don and his family lived. My husband went to church with him, as a child and has many a story. He is an elitist jerk and I don't like him.

James Dobson -
I'm really not sure if there is anyone out there that disgusts me more than James Dobson, he is one of the worse hate-mongering bigots of our times! Here are a few examples of his "tamer" quotes: "My observation is that women are merely waiting for their husbands to assume leadership."
“[The homosexual] agenda includes teaching pro-homosexual [sic] concepts in the public schools, redefining the family to represent "any circle of people who love each other," approval of homosexual adoption, legitimizing same-sex marriage, and securing special rights for those who identify themselves as gay. Those ideas must be opposed, even though to do so is to expose oneself to the charge of being "homophobic."

Jerry Falwell -
He has been at the center of many controversies over the years including a number of run ins with the Federal Elections Committee and the IRS. He even blamed the events of September 11th, 2001 "on abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America."
Don't forget his other quotes, such as "Blacks, Hispanics, women, etc. are God-ordained minorities who do indeed deserve minority status."
And talks about the teletubbie Tinky Winky like he is the anti-christ "He is purple — the gay-pride color; and his antenna is shaped like a triangle — the gay-pride symbol,"

Toby Keith-
He is an idiot.
Oh, Justice will be served and the battle will rage. This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage
You'll be sorry that you messed with the US of A'Cuz we'll put a boot in your ass
It's the American way.

I'd like to put a boot in his ass!

I have little problem with Daniels' belief in Christianity, though I think he really needs to use a little critical thinking. Men don't get swallowed by whales and live, even if it says so in the Bible. For Manzullo, most of the negative I know about him from my childhood comes from other sources so I'll let that lie (hey, I was just a kid!) His lockstep march with the Bush administration is enough. And for Falwell and Dobson, well, our American Taliban convicts itself daily with its hatred and bigotry. Their smug belief that they can order the world in a certain way regardless of what the rest of us believe is easily their ugliest side. They belittle women, bash gays, marginalize other faiths or none and generally cheapen our public discourse.

Ergo: Fools.

coul you write in a color other than red. . . with your new blog background colors it makes it very hard to read.

I think critical thinking needs to even be invested more in the Charlie Daniels copy and paste you took. . . ". . . and rose on the third day and now sits at the right hand of The Father interceding for those who believe in him . . ."

and ". . . believe that the salvation of Jesus Christ is available to all and that he is the way the truth and the light, the only path to God. . . "

The act of interceeding is to intervene between two parties with differences.

So IF Jesus intercedes between God and someone who believes in Jesus, he is sort of acting as a lawyer. The need for intercession presupposes that:
1. not everyone who believes in Jesus get's into heaven
2. you can get into heaven by not believing in Jesus, it's just harder to get in . . . sort of representing yourself in court.

I know a lot of Christians have this very same declaration of faith and bewlieve in it's exclusivity, but when critical thinking is applied somethings just don't add up.

Sorry 'bout the red ~ I hope this is more soothing.

Bubba~ hate? I don't hate any of those people. I am disgusted by their behavior and comments.
Now, why would I take anything out on Sam? He hasn't done anything... when he's a fool, I tell him so and we move on. :)

The attack on Charlie Daniel's statement is certainly unqualified. Charlie was essentially reciting the Apostle's Creed, which is what the Bible teaches about Jesus. To debate that, the questioner needs to demonstrate that the Bible's accounts are unauthentic. To say that it's impossible for someone to rise from the dead is valid only if you presuppose that God does not exist.

In fact, arguing that a man being sallowed by a whale is ludicrous is valid, again, if all are agreed that God does not exist.

To the point, Clytemnestra's lawyer analogy grossly misrepresents the work of Jesus Christ on the cross for a variety of reasons. To be brief:

1. A lawyer wins their case by convincing argument. The truth of the matter is irrelevant and the innocence of their client immaterial, especially if it does not help their argument. (I don't mean to say that lawyers don't care about the truth, only that caring about the truth is largely a matter of their own perogative).

2. No lawyer, no matter how much they believe in their client's innocence, would ever willingly take the rap for them.

To anchor my points:

"The chief priests began to accuse Him harshly. Then Pilate questioned Him again, saying, "Do You not answer? See how many charges they bring against You!" but Jesus made no further answer; so Pilate was amazed." (Mark 15:3-5; cf. Acts 8:32,33; Is.53:7,8)

Since when does a lawyer win his case by offering no defense and ultimately serving a sentence of death for his client?

If you want an accurate understanding of what the Cross means to Christianity, I would highly recommend the "Cross of Christ" by John R.W. Stott.
