A Warning Shot Across Their Bow

Big congratulations to Paul Hackett for running one hell of a race in Southern Ohio. For those not following the race, Hackett , an Iraq war veteran, was challenging Republican Jean Schmidt for an open Congressional seat in a district the Republicans have held for over 40 years. While he was unable to pull out a victory, Hackett ran a very competitive race, showing once again that a Democrat with convictions can compete anywhere in the country (you paying attention, DLC?).

From Hackett:

"For the first time in almost 40 years democracy has succeeded in southern
Ohio," Hackett told his supporters. "We as Democrats demonstrated what we can do
when we put our heads together and roll up our sleeves."
Given Schmidt's paltry 4% margin of victory, I'd say the GOP has much to be concerned about in 2006. The American people are once again realizing which party represents the American People's interests and which one clearly does not.

I predict we'll be hearing from Mr. Hackett again very soon.

And wasn't nice that Mr. Hackett forced the GOP to shell out over $300,000 for advertising. Just an attempt to stimulate the economy! Given the heavy Republican leaning of the district, Hackett should be extremely proud!
